King Porus The Great-who won against the undefeated Alexander

king poras

Do you know about King Porus? Do you know he defeated so-called Alexander the great who never lost a single battle?I am sure, you don’t know anything about it.Lots of Indian people don’t about their own history.Because we have been taught very distorted history by British and after independence by Congress Government. They glorify invaders and don’t bother to mention about our great Indian history. They purposely ignore including the story about our India King in the textbook. We Indians have a great history of the great Hindu kings who ruled this country like KrushnadevaraiPorus, Chandragupta, Shivaji Maharaj, Maharana Pratap etc and defended this land from foreign invaders like Alexander, Mohammed Ghauri, French, British etc…

One of the greatest king in Indian history is King Porus.King Porus was a king of Pauravas whose territory in Punjab region. King Porus was a Chandravanshi king. His Courage and strength were incomparable. He was descendent of Yayati.

battle-hidaspes

One of the important event in Indian history happened in 320 B.C. which was the battle between Alexander and Porus. It was the difficult battle and difficult opponent for King Porus had ever faced.Because he had to face Alexander III.Alexander III of Macedon widely known as Alexander the Great. He was a king of the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon. He stretched his kingdom to Asia, Africa. Most importantly, he was undefeated in battle. He wanted to take over India subcontinent area. So, he marched towards the Paurav Rashtra which led to the Battle of Hydaspes(Jhelum river). The battle was fought on May 326 BC.According to the Greek Texts, the battle was won by the Alexander.Alexander greatly impressed by Porus and granted to rule his own Kingdom and gave south-east area till the river Beas.He also gave territory of King Amabati(Takshashila) who fought alongside with Alexander. This is only according to Greek history book. But, this looks contradictory, isn’t it?

No one can give opponent their own kingdom and also give extra territory to rule as a King after winning against them.Is it possible that King like Alexander who only dreamed to rule the entire world could grant territory? This is not possible. And more important thing is that King Amabati had become an ally of Alexander on only one condition that Alexander should give the entire kingdom of King Porus after winning the war. Also, Alexnder treasury was given to king Porus after the war.

So, on the basis of these points, some historian around the world believed that King Porus was never being defeated by Alexander III.What do you think?

  1. RAKESH RANJAN

But how does the above narration reconciles the fact that Chanakya arranged marriage of daughter of Selyukas the Greek governor of Punjab with Chandragupta Maurya ,unarguably a master stroke of political strategy of matrimonial alliance.
